Woman breast anatomy
Medical Tattoo: Female Breast Anatomy: Glandular Tissue: Lobes and Lobules: The breast contains 15-20 lobes, each made up of smaller structures called lobules. Lobules are the milk-producing glands where milk is synthesized during lactation. Alveoli: Tiny sac-like structures within the lobules where milk is produced. Lactiferous Ducts: These ducts transport milk from the lobules to the nipple. Each lobe has a lactiferous duct that opens at the nipple. Nipple and Areola: Nipple: The central, protruding part of the breast through which milk is delivered to a breastfeeding infant. It contains multiple openings of the lactiferous ducts. Areola: The pigmented area surrounding the nipple, containing small glands called Montgomery's glands that secrete lubricating oils to protect the nipple during breastfeeding. Fatty Tissue: Fat tissue (adipose tissue) surrounds the glandular structures and gives the breast its size and shape. The amount of fatty tissue varies among individuals, contributing to differences in breast size. Connective Tissue: Cooper’s Ligaments: Bands of fibrous tissue that support the breast, maintaining its shape and position on the chest wall. Stroma: The fibrous connective tissue that surrounds and supports the lobules, ducts, and blood vessels. Blood Vessels: The breast is richly supplied with blood through arteries, particularly the internal thoracic artery and lateral thoracic artery. These vessels provide nutrients and oxygen to the breast tissue. Lymphatic System: The breast contains a network of lymphatic vessels that drain into the lymph nodes, particularly the axillary (underarm) lymph nodes. The lymphatic system is crucial for immune function and is often involved in the spread of breast cancer.
